ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking an Electrical Engineer  to join our  Alaskan Satellite Telecommunications Infrastructure (ASTI) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)This is a  full-time   on-site  position at the  Anchorage ARTCC (ZAN)  in  Anchorage, AK .

 

ASTI is an FAA-owned satellite-based network that provides critical inter-facility telecommunications services for Air Traffic Control (ATC) across remote and hub facilities in Alaska.  

 

Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement 

All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance. 

  • Be a US Citizen.
  • Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • RealID Driver’s License/ID or current US Passport. 

Relocation Requirement 

Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to the  Anchorage ARTCC (ZAN)  in  Anchorage, AK . 

 

Education & Experience Requirement 

All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate at the time of application. 

  • A  Bachelors (ABET) degree in  Engineering or related IT field, such as Physics, Aerospace, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Mathematics.
  • Experience with NAS facilities, systems, and equipment is desired .
  • 0 - 3  years of related work experience.  

Required Skills 

  • Solid foundation in circuit theory, power systems, grounding, and signal integrity.
  • Skilled in interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams.
  • Structured troubleshooting methodology including root cause analysis and fault isolation.
  • Understanding of system integration principles involving hardware, firmware, and software interaction.
  • Experience with programming in Python.  
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently, as well as on a team, in an agile environment.
    • Research, troubleshoot and problem solve quickly.
    • Write clear, structured technical documentation. 
    • Support field service calls and explain complex technical issues to non-technical personnel.
    • Learn on the job/willing to self-teach.
    • Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with high organization for technical briefings, field support, and stakeholder coordination. 
 

Preferred Skills 

  • Familiarity with industry safety standards and electrical best practices.
  • Support for electrical engineering tasks in lab, field, and production environments.
  • Participation in after-hours or mission-critical support when required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, UNIX, and UNIX-like operating systems (AIX, Linux).
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving experience.
  • Experience with networking protocols and technologies including TCP, UDP, DHCP, SNMP, and VoIP.
  • Understanding the importance of testing throughout all phases of engineering and programming.
  • Ability to merge and apply technical skills across multiple environments and tasks  

Essential Daily Job Duties 

  • Perform duties related to Electrical engineering, including evaluating electrical systems, equipment, and applications.
  • Take and support field service calls.
  • Provide real-time troubleshooting support to field technicians.
  • Document incident findings and corrective actions.
  • Support remote and on-site system diagnostics.
  • Participate in after-hours or mission-critical support when required.
  • Participate in system and hardware design, development, testing, and documentation creation or updates.  

Work Environment 

  • Standard flexible work schedule; nights and/or weekend when necessary.
  • Travel is  expected up to 25%; may vary year-to-year .
  • Cubicle environment.
