We're looking for a Customer & Stakeholder Manager to be the key link between Downer, our clients, local businesses, community groups, residents, and stakeholders across the Gisborne region. This is a unique opportunity to play an important role in helping keep the region connected while ensuring our customers and communities are kept informed, engaged, and supported.
This role can be tailored as either 30 or 40 hours per week for the right person, offering flexibility while still providing the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Based in Gisborne, you'll be the trusted face of our business, building strong relationships, managing communications, coordinating stakeholder engagement activities, and helping ensure our projects and maintenance activities are delivered with the community front of mind.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, local authorities, iwi, businesses, community groups, and residents across the Gisborne region.
- Act as the key point of contact for customers and stakeholder enquiries, ensuring a high level of service and timely responses.
- Develop, implement, and manage stakeholder engagement and communication plans.
- Work closely with operational teams to minimise disruption to customers and communities during maintenance and construction activities.
- Manage customer requests and service enquiries, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and professionally.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and communication materials for clients, stakeholders, and management teams.
- Champion a customer focused culture while supporting health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people and knows how to build strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders. You'll be a confident communicator who can juggle competing priorities, think on your feet, and remain focused on delivering a great customer experience. Experience in customer service, stakeholder engagement, communications, local government, infrastructure, or community-focused roles would be highly valued
Strong relationship building skills with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
Proven experience delivering outstanding customer service
Ability to manage multiple proprieties and work effectively in a fast paced environment
Previous experience in community engagement, communications, customer management, administration, or local government would be an advantage
Experience with CRM and RFS systems is essential.
Ability to influence, negotiate and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
