Outage Planner / Switcher

Downer's Energy & Utilities team is seeking an experienced Outage Planner / Switcher to join our Transmission team in Stratford. Reporting to the Senior Outage Planner, you'll play a key role in planning, scheduling, coordinating and delivering outages across the transmission network while ensuring work is completed safely and in line with client and legislative requirements. 

This is a varied role that combines outage planning and switching with hands-on electrical work across high-voltage substations, generation sites and distribution environments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning and coordinating transmission outages, maintenance and emergency works. 
• Preparing and reviewing operating documentation and outage schedules. 
• Coordinating with clients, contractors and operational stakeholders.
• Carrying out switching and isolation activities to establish safe working conditions. 
• Supporting fault response activities across the transmission network. 
• Assisting with maintenance, installation and upgrade work when schedules allow.
• Providing technical support and promoting Downer's Zero Harm culture. 

Ngā pūkenga matua | What We're Looking For
We're looking for a safety-focused electrical professional who enjoys combining technical planning with operational delivery.

You'll bring:

• Registered Electrician status with a current practising licence. 
• Relevant Level 4 electrical trade qualification or equivalent. 
• Transpower Works Management and Maintenance Switcher qualifications. 
• Current New Zealand driver's licence. 
• Strong electrical industry and safety knowledge.
• Experience preparing operating documents, plans and technical records. 
• Sound communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel. 

Experience within high-voltage transmission or generation environments and Transpower Technical Expert Maintenance Switcher status will be highly regarded.
