Position Title: Part-Time AmeriCorps EXL Member – 900 Hours Over 10 Months
Location: Calistoga Junior/Senior High School – Calistoga, California
Service Term: October 2026–July 2027
Monthly Living Stipend: $1,700
Segal Education Award: $3,697.50 upon successful completion of service

This opportunity is especially well suited for Calistoga and Napa County residents, college students, recent graduates, aspiring educators, and anyone looking for purposeful part-time service while continuing school, work, or other professional goals.
As an AmeriCorps EXL Member, you’ll become a consistent presence on campus while supporting students through mentoring, academic assistance, enrichment, relationship-building, and expanded learning programming.
You will be placed at Calistoga Junior/Senior High School for the service year, allowing you to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
Service Schedule
This is a part-time, 900-hour AmeriCorps service commitment over 10 months.
Regular service schedule:
Monday–Friday
Approximately 12:00 PM–5:30 PM
Core daily programming generally occurs during the afternoon and after-school hours
Some evenings, weekends, trainings, or additional service events may be required to successfully complete the 900-hour contractual service requirement
Winter Break Intercession programming is mandatory
Members are generally not expected to serve when Calistoga Junior/Senior High School is closed, according to the school and district calendar, with the exception of required programming, trainings, and AmeriCorps service events.
Service is completed in person, and Members must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Calistoga.
What You’ll Do
AmeriCorps EXL Members support students during the school day and expanded learning programming, helping young people grow academically, socially, and personally.
Your service may include a combination of the following:
Student Engagement & Campus Connection
Help create a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel connected to their school community.
Build positive relationships with middle and high school students
Facilitate structured activities, games, recreation, and student engagement opportunities
Encourage teamwork, positive communication, leadership, and healthy peer relationships
Support students during transitions, lunch, recreation, and expanded learning programming
Serve as a consistent and encouraging adult presence on campus
Academic Tutoring & Homework Support
Support students who may benefit from additional academic encouragement, organization, and practice.
Provide individualized and small-group support in reading, writing, math, and other academic areas
Assist students with homework, assignments, projects, and study skills
Reinforce classroom learning goals and instructional strategies
Collaborate with teachers and school staff
Help students build confidence, persistence, organization, and positive learning habits
Mentoring & Social-Emotional Learning
Build meaningful relationships with students who may benefit from additional connection and support.
Facilitate individual or small-group mentoring
Lead activities focused on social-emotional learning, relationship-building, communication, leadership, and personal growth
Use provided curriculum to develop and implement engaging mentoring activities
Help students strengthen confidence, belonging, self-advocacy, and connection to school
Encourage students as they navigate the academic and social transitions of middle and high school
Expanded Learning & Enrichment
AmeriCorps EXL Members are not traditional after-school teachers or childcare staff. Instead, Members serve as enrichment and engagement leaders who help create meaningful experiences for students beyond the traditional school day.
Members may support or help lead enrichment opportunities based on program needs, student interests, and Member strengths, including:

You’ll collaborate with school and expanded learning staff while gaining direct exposure to careers in education, youth development, counseling, recreation, public service, and community programming.

Serving at Calistoga Junior/Senior High School provides a unique opportunity to support students during an important period of growth and transition.

AmeriCorps EXL Members receive:
$1,700 monthly living stipend throughout the 10-month contract
$3,697.50 Segal Education Award upon successful completion of the 900-hour term of service
Education Award may be used toward eligible educational expenses or repayment of qualified student loans
Federal student loan deferment and interest repayment for qualifying loans
Eligibility for CalFresh, California’s food assistance program
$250 moving stipend for eligible applicants relocating from more than 250 miles away from their service site
Extensive professional development, coaching, training, and experiential learning opportunities
Health benefit options may be available — inquire for additional information

Who We’re Looking For
You do not need years of professional experience to make a difference.
We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, dependable, flexible, and genuinely interested in supporting middle and high school students.
Applicants must:
Be at least 18 years old, or 17 with parental approval
Have a high school diploma or GED by the service start date
Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien
Due to federal grant restrictions, DACA recipients are not currently eligible
Successfully complete required background checks, including DOJ, FBI, and the National Sex Offender Public Website
Submit a current, clear TB test
Be willing to serve consistently and professionally at Calistoga Junior/Senior High School
Demonstrate a commitment to safety and follow all AmeriCorps, program, and school-site safety requirements
