Join a close-knit Health Information Management team where collaboration and teamwork are part of the everyday culture. Our experienced team members are cross-trained to support one another, share responsibilities and provide coverage when needed. You'll join a welcoming department where employees work together, communicate across the hospital and take pride in maintaining accurate, accessible and confidential patient health information.
How you’ll contribute
A Health Information Management Clerk who excels in this role:
Processes outpatient and Emergency Room medical record documentation from the Winchester and Sewanee facilities.
Sorts and organizes medical record paperwork and identifies appropriate documentation for inclusion in the electronic medical record.
Prepares and accurately scans applicable documentation into the Meditech electronic medical record system.
Reviews and processes ER documentation, which represents a significant portion of the position's daily workload.
Assists with Release of Information (ROI) requests received by the department in accordance with established procedures and privacy requirements.
Participates in the department's rotating “fax day,” reviewing and appropriately processing incoming fax requests and documentation.
Completes the department's monthly end-of-month death report.
Assists with incoming department phone calls and appropriately responds to or routes inquiries.
Provides courteous assistance to patients, visitors and other walk-in customers presenting to the HIM department.
Maintains HIPAA standards and protects the confidentiality and security of protected health information at all times.
Works collaboratively within a cross-trained HIM team and provides coverage for other departmental functions as needed.
Performs other HIM-related duties as assigned.
What we’re looking for
Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, required. Additional requirements include:
Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn electronic medical record systems.
Strong attention to detail, organization and accuracy when handling medical records.
Effective communication and customer service skills, including the ability to assist callers and walk-in customers.
Ability to handle confidential and protected health information appropriately.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-trained team.
Previous healthcare experience preferred, but not required.
Previous HIM, medical records, hospital, nursing home/long-term care or other healthcare administrative experience is a plus.
Familiarity with healthcare documentation, such as physician orders, is preferred.
Previous experience with Meditech or another electronic medical record system is a plus.
Schedule: Full-Time - Monday–Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm On-site
