Job Summary

The Machine Shop Superintendent is responsible for directing the daily operations of the machine shop to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely production of high-quality products. This position provides leadership to machine shop personnel, oversees production scheduling, monitors quality and productivity, and works closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Operations to achieve production goals while promoting continuous improvement.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required; technical degree or machining certification preferred
  • Five-to-seven (5-7) years of machining or manufacturing experience required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment preferred

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of machining processes, CNC equipment, tooling, production planning, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards, workplace safety requirements, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, develop employees, and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring production schedules, quality standards, and customer delivery commitments are achieved while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
  • Lead, coach, and develop machine shop personnel by providing training, performance management, and ongoing support to promote employee engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Purchasing to resolve production issues, optimize machine utilization, improve manufacturing processes, and minimize downtime and scrap.
  • Monitor productivity, labor efficiency, equipment performance, and quality metrics; identify opportunities to improve operational performance, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with company policies, safety requirements, and quality standards.
