Purpose
As an Oxygen Plant Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the oxygen process plant, supporting overall production performance and plant reliability. Your contribution will directly impact safety outcomes, operational continuity, and equipment performance through disciplined plant operation, inspections, and compliance with HSE standards.
You will support daily operations by monitoring plant systems, identifying defects, and maintaining high standards of process control, reliability, and safety, while contributing to a strong team culture and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties
- Operate and monitor oxygen plant equipment in line with daily plans and supervisor direction
- Ensure full compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and Fitness for Work requirements
- Perform routine plant inspections, system checks, and defect identification
- Report hazards, defects, and maintenance requirements through appropriate systems
- Follow safe work procedures and standard operating processes (SOPs) at all times
- Support shift activities including handover, toolbox meetings, and skills training
- Contribute to identifying cost reduction opportunities and minimising waste
- Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors and team members
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary operations and maintenance team
- Stop unsafe work and escalate risks or issues as required
- Contribute ideas to improve plant performance, safety, and efficiency
Training & Experience
- Experience operating within a process plant or industrial environment, ideally in mining, oil & gas, or heavy industry
- Knowledge of oxygen plant systems, including compressors, turbines, and cooling water systems (highly regarded)
- Experience working with or the ability to learn SCADA and DCS control systems
- Strong understanding of safe work practices, HSE systems, and PNG Mine Safety Act or similar frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to follow procedures, complete inspections, and perform routine operational tasks
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects, hazards, and operational issues
- Good communication skills with the ability to listen, ask questions, and work effectively in a team
- Ability to manage time, prioritise tasks, and adapt to a dynamic shift-based work environment
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence
- Ability to work collaboratively with operators, maintenance teams, and supervisors
- Self-motivated with the ability to follow direction and work with minimal supervision when required
Working Conditions
This is a FIFO role on a 28/14 rotating roster.
