How you'll make an impact:
We are seeking a zTPF Software Development Engineer. Our zTPF Software Development Engineers enhance and maintain the stability of the zTPF complexes by providing high-quality technical expertise and guidance for our zTPF platform, operating systems, and database. As a zTPF Software Development Engineer, you will work with other zTPF Systems Engineers, zTPF File Support Engineers, Applications Programmers, and Support teams performing daily activities ranging in complexity. You will be responsible for the automation, monitoring, configuration, maintenance, development, and reliable operation of our zTPF environments. You will support and drive work efforts through all stages of development, quality, and implementation life cycle. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, talented, technical, proactive person who embraces team culture, challenges, problem solving, and has a proven track record of delivering.
Your role in action:
- Support day-to-day operations of the TPF environment.
- Monitor system health and assist with troubleshooting production, pre-production and lower-level issues.
- Assist with investigation and debugging efforts to identify and resolve system issues.
- Knowledge of TPF networking technologies, including TCP/IP, OSA, REST services, and Kafka.
- Participate in activities and testing new applications, enhancements, and infrastructure changes in production, pre-production and lower-level environments.
- Assist with implementation activities by following established deployment procedures and execution plans.
- Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
- Develop an understanding of IBM mainframe hardware components, including HMC, DASD, CEC, and LPAR concepts.
- Familiar with TPF Operations Server (TOS) tools and processes to effectively support operational activities and automate tasks.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, applications and support teams to resolve issues and complete projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational processes and contribute to automation initiatives.
- Provide 24x7 on-call availability and support on a rotating basis with other team members
Could this be you?
- Experience with operations in a IBM zTPF environment.
- Knowledge of IBM Z hardware and software technologies
- Understanding of the z/TPF operating system.
- Additional programming language/technologies a plus – Assembler, Java, REXX, OOREXX, Python, Linux Scripting
- Good technical aptitude with problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of ITIL principles and processes
- Self-motivated with ability to multi-task and embrace an ever-changing environment, competing priorities, and high expectations.
- Dedication to learning new skills and strengthening existing skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Commitment to continuing professional development
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate technical information in a clear and succinct manner
