About this role
The Regional Director is responsible for direct oversight of the Region’s Stores, Selling Center locations and Cross Dock locations including growth effectiveness, efficiency, profitability, and market share. S/He develops business, financial, and operational plans for all Stores in the Region (including budget, advertising, staffing, training, quality assurance, regional expansion, etc.) S/He assists each District/General Manager (DM/GM) in the Region to maximize each Store’s total performance as measured by the standards adopted by the Company.
This position is based in the Northeast market area, travel is expected throughout the region. Locations include:
Detroit, MI / Cleveland, OH / Baltimore, MD / Richmond, VA / Delaware, NH / Fairfield, NJ / Long Island, NY / Cincinnati, OH Rochester, NY
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regional Operations & Sales
Directs the DMs/GMs to obtain maximum operational efficiency and effectiveness in relation to OSHA regulations, and safety standards and employee relations by closely monitoring store functions through regular communication/visitation providing input to operations and employee resolutions to ensure the Stores are operating efficiently and profitably
Evaluates store operations, provides feedback to DMs/GMs, delivering reports/feedback to COO following the visitations of stores in order to maintain a consistent store operations process
Assists the DMs/GMs in the preparation of the Store’s annual operational budget by reviewing prior years’ budgets and forecasting future needs for the purposes of targeting goals
Provides input related to employee issues and assists NSC, Regional and Store staff in resolutions
Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, including evaluation of PPE, pneumatic and power tools for safe use standards; assures bi-weekly safety meetings and monthly safety committee meetings are conducted through regular updates with the GM/DM to ensure safe working practices for employees
Ensures regional Federal & State DOT regulations are followed including verification of appropriate vehicle inspection or record of duty statuses (if applicable for the area) reports are completed, that drivers are qualified, and that Tuff Shed’s fleet of trucks and equipment are properly maintained through visitations/meetings with factory store DM/GM for compliance purposes
Ensures that DMs/GMs 1) build all displays to corporate specifications in size, style, configuration, and color; 2) maintain all displays in excellent condition; and 3) track and replace all displays as required by corporate guidelines through regular factory store meetings/visitations for uniformity purposes
Consults with the Sr. Vice President, COO, Regional Sales Directors, Regional Production Directors, and the appropriate NSC Staff regarding existing or required policies and procedures and any revision to display specifications
Communicates information regarding advertising effectiveness, customer service, quality, and Store and overall, Region performance to appropriate NSC leadership
Negotiates with vendors, suppliers, and commercial accounts, as necessary
In partnership with sales leadership, is responsible for the achievement of sales goals for Tuff Shed (Retail &The Home Depot) and Woodmaster products and services.
Leadership & Development
Ensures regional compliance with Tuff Shed’s policies and procedures in relation to Operations, Sales, and Finance/Accounting, Risk Management practices, and Human Resources practices, including all applicable laws and regulations
Partners hands-on with DMs/GMs, RSDs, and RPDs to diagnose root causes of performance and operational issues and work with key stakeholders to improve outcomes
Leads the RSDs and RPD, ensuring long/short term goals are met for the region; encourages professional development to build knowledge and skills for Tuff Shed leadership bench growth
Conducts regular DM/GM performance reviews, preparing evaluations and mutually establishing performance goals and objectives and related timetables for next performance period
Ensures that DMs/GMs use good judgment and accept management principles in the operation of their stores to include motivating, training, and retaining store employees through daily/regular engagement, collaboration, and communication for the purpose of maintaining a strong workforce
Assists the DMs/GMs in identifying, hiring, and training employees at all levels by proactively seeking out opportunities to interview, follow hiring processes as determined by HR and utilizing resources available for the purpose of maintaining a qualified workforce
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop District/General managers and regional leaders.
Ability to diagnose operational problems, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions.
Strong business judgment and decision-making skills.
Ability to develop and execute operational, financial, staffing, training, advertising, and growth plans.
Knowledge of budgeting, profitability, operational efficiency, quality assurance, and performance management.
Ability to negotiate effectively with vendors, suppliers, and commercial customers.
Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, including executives, management, suppliers, customers, employees, business partners, and commercial accounts in a wide range of situations
Ability to effectively present information orally in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and employees and if necessary, the public
Ability to use arithmetic, mathematical, accounting, and financial tools as they apply to Tuff Shed business
Ability to read, write and understand instructions given orally, in writing and/or in diagram form
Ability to prepare written correspondence and reports that create a professional image for Tuff Shed
Education/Training/Certifications/Licenses
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (4 years of experience) in Construction Management, Business, Marketing, Management, preferred.
Must have valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR
Experience
Five years progressively responsible management experience within Tuff Shed or comparable demonstrated management experience in a similar environment
Previous manufacturing and/or construction management experience highly preferred
Experience in sales or managing a sales team, highly preferred
Working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements
Experience leading managers and overseeing multiple locations is strongly preferred
Proficiency and hands-on computer skills in Microsoft Office and Internet applications required. Experience in utilizing Customer Relations Management (CRM) software – including Oracle, JDE, Salesforce.com, or similar systems is highly preferred
