As a Junior Protection & Control Designer, you will contribute to protection, control, and automation solutions that help deliver safe, reliable, and resilient substations and power-system facilities across Ontario and beyond. Based in Thornhill, Toronto, or Mississauga, you will collaborate with experienced specialists and multidisciplinary project teams while developing your technical capability in substation protection and control design.

Your Impact

  • Design protection, control and RTU schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation that support dependable substation operation.

  • Produce remote terminal unit schematics and AC and DC auxiliary-system designs aligned with project, utility, and client requirements.

  • Contribute to relay-setting calculations, protection-coordination studies, and equipment specifications under the guidance of experienced professionals.

  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, and other disciplines to deliver coordinated, construction-ready design packages.

  • Support feasibility studies, proposals, estimates, design reviews, site visits, commissioning, testing, and field troubleshooting.

  • Strengthen safety, quality, and continuous improvement across every assignment.

  • Attend client technical reviews and site visits to support construction and resolve field challenges.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution, with eligibility to register as an Engineer-in-Training with Professional Engineers Ontario where required for the role.

  • 0-3 years of experience in protection and controls design and foundational knowledge of power-system protection principles, substation equipment, protection relays, control systems, and electrical drawings gained through education, co-op, internship, or practical experience.

  • Ability to develop and interpret protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, remote terminal unit interfaces, and AC and DC auxiliary-system documentation.

  • Familiarity with relay-setting calculations, protection coordination, equipment specifications, and applicable CSA, IEEE, and IEC standards.

  • Technical judgment and analytical capability to identify design issues, maintain document accuracy, and contribute effectively within multidisciplinary consulting teams.

  • Availability for occasional travel to client or project sites to support reviews, construction, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
