Bring clarity and confidence to complex project decisions as a Lead Mechanical Cost Consultant based in North York, ON. You will develop reliable cost estimates and plans for plumbing, HVAC, fire control, controls, and specialty systems, helping clients and multidisciplinary teams make informed choices from early design through construction.

Your Impact

  • Prepare detailed construction cost estimates and cost plans for mechanical systems, including plumbing, HVAC, fire control, controls, and specialty systems.

  • Develop Class D, C, B, and A estimates using conceptual information, design drawings, specifications, quantity take-offs, and market intelligence.

  • Analyze drawings, tender documents, construction methodologies, and pricing inputs to identify scope, risks, opportunities, and key cost drivers.

  • Validate subcontractor, supplier, vendor, and historical cost data to strengthen estimate quality and commercial confidence.

  • Support feasibility studies, budget development, value engineering, design-to-budget initiatives, and cost reconciliation across design stages.

  • Review contractor bids, change order pricing, cost audits, and commercial evaluations, providing clear analysis and recommendations.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver concise cost reports and presentations that support decisions.

  • Mentor junior estimators and improve estimating tools, benchmarks, databases, and procedures to advance team capability.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Demonstrable lead experience in mechanical construction estimating, quantity surveying, or cost consulting.

  • A degree, diploma, or technical certification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.

  • Experience estimating building, institutional, commercial, healthcare, transportation, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical construction methods, materials, labour productivity, market pricing, and cost planning practices.

  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications; experience with CostX is an asset.

  • Ability to interpret design drawings, specifications, tender documents, and contract requirements and translate them into defensible estimates.

  • Professional designation such as PQS, CEC, MRICS, or an equivalent credential.

  • Clear technical writing, analytical, presentation, and client-facing communication skills developed in a consulting, engineering, quantity surveying, or owner-side environment.

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $122,900 - 162,800

MB & ON: $112,100 - 154,400

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $111,000 - 147,400
