The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist assists the Laboratory Supervisor in monitoring technical staff, performing routine and advanced laboratory testing, and ensuring compliance with quality standards. They also manage instrument maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, and oversee staff competency and scheduling.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field and possess ASCP or equivalent certification. At least two years of clinical laboratory experience is required, with four years required for NY-based roles.

Purpose:
This position assists the Laboratory Supervisor by monitoring the work of technical and ancillary employees. The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist assists in test development, gathering data for management reports and regularly performs the duties of a Medical Lab Scientist, including the accurate performance of routine and advanced testing. This position functions as the Laboratory Supervisor during the Supervisor's absence. Assures compliance with the UPMC mission and values for providing service excellence.
