Job Overview

The position is charged with maintaining the academic files and ensuring the integrity of the academic record for approximately 300 advisees. For those students, the advising dean will review/approve: transfer credit, study abroad programs, changes to a student’s academic program, and exceptions in the student’s degree audit. Consistent with Georgetown’s commitment to cura personalis, this position, though primarily an academic advisor, supports and advises students on any and all matters which interfere with personal well-being and academic success. All advising team staff participate in College Academic Council events, office retreats, New Student Orientation, Parents Weekend and Commencement activities in various roles.
Work Interactions
This position reports directly to an Associate Dean, and interacts daily with other advisors and two records specialists on the team. At any given time, this position might interact with any of the 3700 students of the College, or any of the main campus faculty who teach them. This position has the authority to and is expected to handle and resolve many delicate and complex conflicts between student and faculty, student and parent, parent and the institution, with all appropriate tact, sensitivity, and a sense of the academic standards to be applied to each such conflict. The position will also interact with colleagues in partner offices across campus.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an academic field appropriate to a college of arts and sciences.
3-5 years’ experience in higher education advising or administration.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in an academic field appropriate to a college of arts and sciences.
Familiarity with student information systems.
